Nothing's As It Seems by Holly Brandon is the story of Dr. Chase Ann Morgan as she chases love and, in the meantime, tries to figure out her life as well as a mystery that has her scratching her head. While Chase is seeking love, she is also scrambling to find a job to support her and fulfill her dreams. Speaking of dreams, Chase has been having some bizarrely vivid dreams that are plaguing her waking hours. As always, her chaotic family either makes things worse or better for her. From blind dates to facing her ex, Chase has a lot on her plate, and most of the time, she is not ready for it. However, things become intriguing when Chase finds an old journal with some very fascinating and disturbing information. With a little help from her young neighbor, Chase trusts the process and hopes she will be on the right track in the end.
Nothing's As It Seems by Holly Brandon is a fascinating story with a complex heroine and a well-thought-out plot. Chase is the kind of character you root for and cheer on from the very beginning. She is 31 years old in this story, but she feels like an old soul. She is jaded in some ways, but she is also almost childlike in others. She is desperate for love, but she doesn’t let it fool her. While the Morgan family loves her, they are a colorful bunch who keep the story interesting and funny. Chase’s race to find herself, find love, keep a job, and stay on top of the strange mystery are handled very well. Her relationship with Roxie is great; she is a sweetheart and a true friend. Paul is fantastic, Nana is sneaky, and Chase is wonderful! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
