"Northern Utopia: Rebirth of American Dream" is a very insightful and well-written book dealing with the growth boom in North Dakota. Within this state the reader will find that various towns are booming with growth due to the oil industry. There are many towns with limited housing and when people move in to find work they may have to stay in hotels for months before housing becomes available. There are excellent wages found in most industries in this state especially since the finding of oil in 1951.
Mat Chaudhry does a wonderful job explaining the pros and cons of this fast growth found within the state. While many feel they can come and make a great living because of the increase in wages, they must also consider if they can find housing when they arrive. Many can't bring their families with them because of this, causing one to be alone with their work for a long time. Also included within this fine piece of work are places to worship, utilities, schools, things to do and so on. While the landscape is beautiful, one must remember the very cold and dangerous winters in this area. It isn't wise for someone to think they could sleep in their vehicle during the winter months as they would most certainly freeze to death. This is truly a great resource for anyone looking for information to help them determine if they would like to move to this state and make this their new home.
