In No Reservations by L.A. Keller Rager, Jayne Stanford is delighted to receive an invitation from her best friend Bailey, a security systems consultant, for a weekend at a Colorado mountain resort. Bailey had a business meeting and wanted to share her time with Jayne. Running late for a luncheon appointment, Bailey leaves Jayne in the woods and rushes off toward the lodge. Trudging through the snow, Jayne stumbles over a dead man who she thought had followed them from Arizona. That evening, they head for a business party, but their car slides off the road into the forest. Bailey goes in search of help … and disappears. That’s when Jayne’s adventures really start. Concerned about her friend’s safety, with the police apparently not doing much to find Bailey, she starts her own investigation despite being warned not to meddle in police business. Inevitably, her meddling lands her in more trouble than she bargained for.
In the third book in the Jayne Stanford Mystery series, L.A. Keller Rager presents a masterfully written mystery wrapped in engaging narrative and realistic dialogue that’s a pleasure to read. No Reservations is not a standard whodunnit police drama where some hardboiled cop sifts through snippets of evidence and eventually unravels all. Jayne Stanford is an ordinary young woman thrust into a scenario that could happen to anyone, desperate to find her friend Bailey regardless of personal cost. Jayne is a strong, determined character, willing to go that extra mile, something readers will appreciate. No Reservations is not a dark conspiracy with a hidden political agenda. It is an endearing, carefully crafted story that draws readers to turn the next page. The book relies on transpiring events to carry the story, which it does superbly well. A highly recommended and entertaining read.
