I have always been fascinated with the Nephilim. They are mentioned briefly in scripture. When I saw the title of this book I knew I had to read it. Journalist, Rory Callahan, witnessed evil; it came in a fog of darkness. Within seconds he was hit by a taxi. He began his research and discovered comparable occurrences, including one that piqued his interest, in the 19th century, in a small Colorado mining town, Taylor’s Crossing. He discovered that the same dark fog plagued the town: some in the town moved away, most of the town disappeared. The town has been restored as a tourist hot spot. Rory moves there in the hope of finding the truth. The truth may be more than he can handle.
Stephen King and Dean Koontz have long been known as masters of horror. I believe you can add Renee Pawlish to that list. This book is filled with the supernatural evil spirits just waiting for the right moment to take dominion over their earthly home. Pawlish's descriptions are vivid. Though she was dealing with a topic that could easily have become so extreme that it could take on a comical approach, she was careful to maintain decorum. The plot is entrancing. It grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it to the end. Pawlish maintained the pulse of the suspense throughout the book. The characters are easy to connect with. I found this book engaging, easy to read and a fast read. I suspect the author has plans for a series.
