Neglected Truth: A Medical Murder Mystery is the second novel in the Dr. Samantha Jenkins Mysteries series by Stephanie Kreml. Dr. Samantha Jenkins is focused on her career over everything else. After leaving her residency, Sam now works at a drug testing and workers’ comp clinic and hopes she will finally find a new direction. However, things change when a patient named Mrs. Garza comes to Sam with a strange request. Her son Raul passed away in a car accident, but Mrs. Garza doesn’t believe it. She asks Sam to look into the death. The deeper Sam looks into Raul’s death, the more she realizes how twisted things are where Raul worked. Sam has to hurry up and solve this case before she becomes one of the casualties.
Neglected Truth by Stephanie Kreml focuses on one of the most misleading and ignored issues of our present time: workplace negligence. I have not read the previous novel in the series, but I faced zero issues in connecting with Sam. While some gaps can only be filled by reading the first novel in the series, catching up is not hard. Sam is dedicated to her work and wants to do it justice. Her character is complex without being complicated. While her personal life is a little disturbed, she doesn’t let that deter her from the job at hand. The narrative flows smoothly, it lures readers in and makes them want to stay just a little longer. The dialogues are revealing, the descriptions are vital for the plot, and the overall feel of the story is fantastic. I loved this book!
