My Soul to Give (A Demon’s Love Book 1) is a paranormal romance by author Magali A. Fréchette. After witnessing her husband Thomas’ brutal murder, Celina makes a pact with demon Mekaisto, affectionately known as Kai, to seek revenge on those responsible for Thomas’ death. She swears her body and soul to him and embarks on a mission to uncover the truth as to why Thomas was targeted. However, along the way, Celina begins to learn that Thomas was involved in more than he was telling her, including dealings with an ancient church trained in the killing of demons. With her ever-growing feelings of guilt over her lust after Kai, will Celina be able to put the pieces together or is her soul doomed to belong to Kai for all eternity?
I am not usually a fan of paranormal romance; however, I did immensely enjoy this novel, in particular the background story woven around the church of demon hunters. I almost wish there was more to that history, and I am hoping we will find out more about it in subsequent books. The interplay between Celina and Kai was built up nicely, and the glimpses of humanity from Kai made me like him as much as I hated him at certain points. Magali A. Fréchette has a good way with words, and I found no glaring errors or flaws in the execution of the manuscript, which is always a positive thing in my opinion. I was engaged enough to want to read more about Celina and Kai, and was also pleased this book did not end on a cliffhanger, as I had some concern it would, being a first novel in a series. The central story line was wrapped up very nicely, with teasers for more to come. My Soul to Give (A Demon’s Love Book 1) is certainly a must-read for paranormal romance lovers, and Fréchette is definitely an author I want to continue reading.
