My Personal Fables: Book 1, The Legend of the Horse is a fantasy adventure tale by Sadie Chapman. Taking advice from Zeus, his steed Pegasus summons three of his strongest pairs of white-winged stallions and mares and travels to Earth with them to create a new species that will bring the planet into a new era of civilization. After dividing the three pairs into Earth unicorns, Day unicorns, and Night unicorns and giving them separate responsibilities and powers, Pegasus warns them of Hades' notorious sabertooth tigers. As time passes, those sabertooth tigers continue a brutal war of bloodshed and mayhem against the unicorns, driving them to the point of extinction. At last, a Night unicorn called Moonbeam gives birth to a young stallion called Seequest who assumes the responsibility for creating a line of horses who will roam the Earth for eons to come.
Akin to children's fairytales, My Personal Fables follows a story where animals are the major characters who must overcome seemingly overwhelming odds to survive and stand up against tyranny. Sadie Chapman creates an imaginative world featuring unicorns, sabertooth tigers, Greek gods, and villains who captivate you from the first page to the last. Chapman's narrative enhances the fantastical elements of the story, which add a sense of wonder to the tale. All the characters have distinct traits and well-developed personas that will leave a mark on the reader. I enjoyed the book and recommend it to children and young adults alike.
