Brenda got her favorite shirt when she was six. It was pink with a lot of colors and she wore it all the time and to every place. Everyone liked her pink shirt and complimented her. Slowly over time, by putting it in the wash, the stickers were peeling and the animals were coming off. Her mother thought she should give the shirt to Tiffany, who was in need, and Brenda was very sad. She really loved her pink shirt even after two years but her mother was right. Finally, Brenda agreed to give it away and hoped the shirt would change Tiffany's life.
My Favorite Shirt (The Brenda Kingsford Collection) by Ciara Ijames is about giving and letting go, and young readers will find Brenda's character and behavior real and relatable. The illustrations are as delightful and charming as the story and they give a good pace and fluidity to the story. The author makes the book interactive and entertaining by having mini activities at the end of the story, and that makes this book perfect to use in classrooms and school libraries to help children understand the concept of giving and generosity. Parents can ask their children to do these activities at home, and help them build their characters. Every child has favorites in life and they will be able to relate to Brenda and her loving her pink shirt.
