Art's stated goal in writing this book is to make the world a better place and return America to democracy. He does both. He doesn't pull any punches about the people, institutions, or beliefs that he feels are damaging to making the world better. He uses humor and excellent argumentation techniques to do so.
Some people will disagree with his beliefs or how they are stated, but he is not dogmatic. On my radio show, he proved to be a man who could listen, maybe even modify his beliefs - if the other's argument was well presented and made good sense to Art.
Besides the thoughtful points Art made about each "Druther", he is always entertaining. Also, for the busy reader you’ll like the way the book is organized. It doesn't have to be read at one sitting, but can be picked up and read anywhere - even while you're in the bathroom.
The prison system is overloaded with beliefs that aren’t working. The cost per inmate is more than many inmates could make in three years. When a man is taken away from his family because he was caught with an illegal drug or some other victimless crime, his family often ends up on welfare – another expense, but worse is what it does emotionally to the family. The reverberations travel through society.
Of course, as a teacher, I enjoyed his comments about the many problems of our rigid educational system. He has many useful ideas here that could make our country and world a better place.
