Heads Up Mom by Lori Arnold is an essential book for every first-time mom, mainly about how their daily life will shift as their child grows through the first three years. Lori says that all the excitement around a new baby's arrival can put a first-time mom at a disadvantage from the beginning, especially when no one gives them a heads-up regarding the massive life changes and struggles a baby brings. In this book, new moms will learn about many changes, challenges, and chaos that may take them by surprise. Lori shares day-to-day realities, personal stories, advice, tips, tricks, and strategies to make the daily task of mothering easier. She discusses time reallocation, conflicting feelings, unrealistic or uncommunicated expectations, the importance of the division of labor, mental "tugs," self-care, shutting off mom-mode, mistakes any expecting couple can make, the pros and cons of transitioning to unpaid champion mom, and more.

Heads Up Mom is a thoughtful, helpful, and encouraging work that serves as a guidebook and a more honest, realistic look at motherhood. Lori Arnold holds first-time moms' hands while preparing them for the new life stage a baby brings and helping them avoid feeling guilty as if they're doing something wrong or not being good mothers. While this book arms new moms with tangible expectations and the not-so-glamorous realities of life with a baby, I highly appreciated the chapter on how to shift from Mr. and Mrs. to Mommy and Daddy, making it an essential read even for new fathers. All first-time moms will benefit from it as it aims to help them make their daily life with a little one easier.
