Music Is All Around Me by Heather Jack, illustrated by Eileen Vuorinen, is a lovely children’s book. It is an ode to music, to learning with the five senses, and to being oneself and enjoying all the small pleasures we can. It is also about being happy and serene as we grow older. It is first and foremost a wonderful story of love and family, beautifully illustrated. Both pictures and words complement each other perfectly and give us a sense of the magic of music. This lovely story is perfect for parents and teachers alike to share the essential concepts of perseverance, support, confidence, hope, and enthusiasm.
Music Is All Around Me by Heather Jack is a fabulous children’s book that is as entertaining as it is pedagogical. Indeed, we are fully engrossed by the moving story of 8-year-old Rosy Ann who does not want to keep learning the piano any longer. As the story progresses, her mother intentionally asks her questions about music and helps her figure out that she adores music and dancing. What she does not enjoy are the piano lessons. All the pictures are bright and colorful, and help us feel enchanted by the story. The young girl is the perfect illustration of many modern-day kids who believe they do not like an activity because something is missing, or because they are not getting along with someone, including the teacher or the other children. A gem of a book!
