Murder with Strings Attached by Mark Reutlinger is a humorous murder mystery. Flo Palmer has made a living as a thief. She’s tried honest work but just can’t settle to it. Her latest job involves stealing Aaron Levy’s concert violin, a priceless instrument that she knows she can't fence. Instead, she plans to ransom it back to him. Caught in the act, you can imagine her surprise to learn that the violin has already been stolen. She is even more surprised when Levy asks her to help him steal it back. Things never go according to plan though, and others are after the violin too. When Flo stumbles across a dead body, she immediately becomes the prime suspect and she and Levy need to clear her name. To do that, they must find the real murderer. Can they retrieve the violin and finger the real murderer without any more bodies piling up?
Murder with Strings Attached by Mark Reutlinger is a light comedy that made a few hours pass quite pleasantly. It is a comedy of errors all the way through with some very strong characters, especially the female lead. She’s confident, sassy, and not afraid to speak her mind, a refreshing change from other similar books with weak lead characters. Fun characters combine with a lighthearted and fun plot with plenty of action. The story flows well, romping along at a steady pace, with a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes. The story creates a certain amount of tension that will have you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what happens and, although it was written as a standalone, I feel there is more of this story to be told.
