When Pavel Baron, the new director of the American Ballet Company, was murdered, ballerina Leah Siderova found herself immersed in another mystery. Soon, other company members faced similar fates. In less than a year, Leah helped to solve both crimes while trying to keep herself and other members of the company safe. She also had to battle the snowy February weather in Manhattan and avoid any food that could add extra pounds to her slim body. Enlisting the help of her mother, sister, friends, and a group she called the Weird Sisters, she accomplished her goals. In the second book of the On Pointe Mystery series, author Lori Robbins has crafted an interesting work titled Murder in Second Position.
There are many wonderful attributes to this novel. First, the insights into the lives of ballet dancers, including the competitive nature, the strenuous rehearsals, and the never-ending focus on weight are enlightening. Likewise, the funding resources and how the dancers and company staff need to demonstrate their appreciation are insightful. The story is fast-paced; there is a smooth flow to the writing, making this an easy read. The development of the main characters is another strength in this story. Each one’s personality is well-described. The relationships within the ballet company, as well as personal relationships, are explored. There are two potential love interests for Leah. Murder in Second Position by author Lori Robbins is an intriguing murder mystery. Readers will look forward to the next book in this series!
