Tom Dashiel is a forty-four-year-old therapist leading a solitary life in Santa Cruz, California. Tom's physical features are intimidating, as he is very tall and has scars on his face following a bad accident. Tom meets an unusual client named George Arundel who speaks in different voices and behaves strangely. Arundel tries to convince Tom that one of his friends is an angel and that Tom himself may also have some angelic characteristics. Soon, Tom starts to lose his grip on reality, haunted by weird synchronicities and disturbing dreams. Meanwhile, Santa Cruz is shaken by violent murders committed by an unknown serial killer. Formerly a private investigator, Tom tries to help a friend in need and solve the mystery of the angelical visions. Murder for Liar by Verlin Darrow is a treat for fans of psychological thrillers, suspense, and crime dramas.
Murder for Liar offers a smooth reading experience. The narrative unfolds from the therapist's point of view, allowing us to follow his thought process. Verlin Darrow shares professional secrets with his readers, making for an insightful account. The character development is also remarkable. From the outset, Tom fights his inner demons and insecurities. The author explores a striking contrast between his appearance, which some may consider daunting, and his mindset, revealing a wounded soul. Tom's path to self-discovery is expertly woven into the plotline. Verlin did a great job creating secondary characters, like the beautiful Dizzy, a mysterious Zig-Zag, or a non-orthodox guru in the form of Matthew Ferguson. Verlin crafts a captivating story and pays great attention to detail. The flow of events is a balance between action and puzzling twists and turns to keep us on the edge of our seats.
