Mrs. Morgan Rescues…Three Kittens! written by Bonnie Jo Davis, is an excellent book in this series that teaches proper care for kittens and animals overall. Mrs. Morgan is a retired woman who takes in animals and cares for them until homes are found for them. In this book, Mrs. Morgan receives a call from the local animal shelter as there are three week-old kittens there and the mama cat has died and the shelter does not have enough people to bottle feed them. Mrs. Morgan and her eleven-year-old neighbor Bree go to the shelter to pick up the kittens, allowing Bree to have time to ask questions and have them answered about carrying for the kittens. Bree and Mrs. Morgan care for Fluffy, Rambo, and Cuddles along with Annie, a mama cat that Dr. Perkins eventually adopts. It is explained that it is best for the kittens to be fed and cared for by a mama cat if possible as she can teach them how to clean themselves and use the litter box.
I really enjoyed sharing Bonnie Jo Davis’ book, Mrs. Morgan Rescues…Three Kittens! with my children as it was an enjoyable and educational book and one that allowed for further discussion as to taking care of kittens. The book discusses the needs of young kittens, the concept of fostering cats and this is shared in a fun way. This is a quick read that will hold young children’s attention, and yet it is also jam-packed with information and tips for caring for kittens that children will remember as it is shared through the characters’ examples.
