Moon Path is a work of historical fiction set during the years of the Second World War, penned by author Steven Greenberg. Brothers Aron and Samuel Katz take the lead roles in this far-reaching narrative that spreads across war-torn Europe in 1942, focusing on the lives of the Jewish people and the power of fraternal love in surviving one of the world’s largest atrocities. Set among the lesser known experiences of the people of Palestine, Iran, and the surrounds during the Second World War, this story sees younger brother Samuel cast out to the Arctic in a Soviet Gulag. As Aron deals with Palestine’s own pre-invasion preparations, he has to make a choice about his brother’s future and his own involvement with it.

The intricacy of detail and research in author Steven Greenberg’s work makes his novel feel like both a reading and learning experience at the same time. The commitment to character development is so strong that it’s easy to forget that Samuel and Aron are fictional, for the struggles they go through reflect the real lives of so many people living all across Europe at the time of the Second World War. The plot is well paced to reveal the chain of events in both their lives, and their fraternal connection sees them through hardships, but is also put to the most extreme tests that human cruelty can throw at them. Overall, Moon Path is a superbly atmospheric work of historical fiction with characters that, once met, are never forgotten.

Moon Path by Steven Greenberg is a novel set against the turbulent events of the 2nd World War. The story begins in Poland, a place seething with anti-Jewish sentiment. Here, we find two Jewish brothers, Samuel and Aron Katz. They struggle to fathom the complexities of their seemingly ambivalent relationship. However, before they are able to examine their childhood disagreements with an adult mind, they are separated. Aron travels to the new state of Israel in Palestine while Samuel has the misfortune to be transported to a Soviet Gulag. Samuel, after being unexpectedly released, travels to Palestine to meet up with his brother and Danuta, his erstwhile girlfriend. It is a long, dark and exceptionally dangerous journey. However, the love and constant stream of correspondence from Danuta is a powerful and tangible pull.

Two Brothers. One War. This is a wonderful insight into the relationship between Samuel and his older brother, Aron. These richly crafted characters examine all manner of issues, not least of all their sexuality. This is played out against the backdrop of profound historical global events. The narrative is tangible and compelling, capturing the essence of a unique period in time. Steven Greenberg is a true wordsmith and provides a veritable banquet for the mind. He takes the reader on an epic journey personally, historically and geographically. Moon Path is an intense and deeply satisfying book, depicting an incredibly dark period in our history. It is historically accurate, written in detail and with depth. I have no hesitation in recommending it. It is a literary feast.

Moon Path by Steven Greenberg is set between 1937 and 1942. Brothers Aron and Samuel Katz are torn apart when Aron leaves Poland and heads for Palestine. WWII hasn’t made its effects felt in Poland yet but when it does, Aron and Samuel are pulled even further apart when Samuel is sent to a Soviet Gulag in the Arctic. Aron has a choice to make – how far will he go to save his brother? Moon Path guides us on a journey from Poland to Tel Aviv, from the Arctic to Iran as Palestine makes its preparations to defend against invasion from the Nazi forces, exploring the strong ties between brothers and what it takes to tear them away from one another. How far can the love between brothers be stretched before it breaks irreparably?

Moon Path by Steven Greenberg is compelling reading. Deeply detailed, historical in nature and spanning a journey of epic proportions, Moon Path leads us by the hand through the horrors of WWII, with characters that are sensational. The connection between the brothers is undeniable and both are incredibly well developed into characters that you won't ever forget; long after the book comes to an end, you will still be living their story. The story moves at a good pace, leading us through the events in their lives, events that can change everything for them. It is an intensive read but it’s one you won’t put down. This is drama, history, romance and action at its best, a story that will stay with you forever.
