Mommy’s A Mole is the story of a sister-in-law, Joan Webster, gone missing and the efforts of author Eve Carson to find out exactly what happened to her beloved in-law. On that Thanksgiving weekend in 1981, Joan was, like millions of Americans that weekend, traveling. But after her plane lands at Logan Airport she never makes it to her final destination. Related to Joan by marriage, it seems as though Eve is the only family member truly concerned about happened to the woman. As she sets out on her quest for the truth, Eve finds out that there were many things in her life, as well as Joan’s, that just were not what they seemed. In the end, it seems as though Eve would have to sacrifice everything in hopes of finding those responsible for Joan’s murder.
While many of the facts surrounding the disappearance and murder of Joan Webster are still disputed, what cannot be disputed is Eve Carson’s determination to find the truth. It seems clear from very early in Mommy’s A Mole that Carson does not believe this to be a random act of violence and the ultimate destruction of familial relationships with her husband and his family lends credence to her theory. There is a lot of information contained in this book; some of it fact and some of it conjecture, but combined it presents a case full of questionable behavior on behalf of several governmental agencies. The anger Eve Carson feels is palpable and rightly so. First, she loses her friend and sister-in-law, then her in-laws and ultimately her daughters.
This is a very compelling story and the evidence provided allows you to use it to formulate your own theories on what happened to Joan Webster.
