Aaron Anson's autobiographical memoir is something I am glad I took the time to read. His unique life story and his emotions make up the pages of this interesting, informative and sometimes a little hard to take in memoir.
I can't even imagine what it's like to be Christian who is both Black and Gay in today's society. But, through "Mind Your Own Life," Anson shows how he has dealt with these sometimes difficult circumstances, as well as his life as a husband and father. He fought against denying his true self, and simply wanted what many of us take for granted, experiencing life without having to hide who we are.
He talks about his struggles and searching for acceptance, and about being free of the burden of hiding and the freedom of letting go. Through all of this, he teaches teenagers, both gay and straight, the importance of being loved unconditionally and wholly. He teaches them that their lives are theirs alone and no matter what, they should accept themselves first and let go of the expectations of others.
This is a well written and interesting memoir. While I don't normally read this type of subject material, I am truly glad to have gotten to know Aaron through his words and learn the importance of acceptance. I encourage you all to read this book and embrace the messages within.
