Laquisha Waterman-Engram introduces Michelle, whose superpower is music. She has several musical instruments - tools that she uses to put a smile on everyone's face. It can be in the park, at the dinner table, even in bed before going to sleep, or early morning in the bathtub. You can count on Michelle to bring cheer. The storyline is simple, with Michelle being a role model for children. In a sense, Michelle represents every child’s inner creativity let loose in the direction of making music. This story is perfect for the classroom or home to pique children’s interest in music. The book encourages children to create their little songs in the same way as Michelle. The rhymes and vivid illustrations will help captivate young audiences. Laquisha Waterman-Engram uses words that are easy to understand and makes the storyline undemanding to follow. The simplicity of the text allows children to come up with a sing-song way of reading the book. Some parts might require extra work in finding a natural-sounding flow when reading out loud, but where there is a challenge there is growth. The high level of diversity represented in Marco Zerneri’s illustrations of children’s ethnicity and abilities helps create a world in which everyone is both accepted and welcomed.
