Penned by author Matthew Howard, the collection introduces readers to the irreverent space pirate Meteor Mags and her indestructible calico cat as they face a lunar death cult led by an alien seeking revenge on humanity. This collection unfolds into six new episodes, showcasing Mags' evolution from a rogue pirate to a strategic leader with grand plans. The narratives delve into encounters with alien menaces, ex-mercenaries, telepathic octopuses, and unforeseen challenges on Ceres and Earth. The stories not only explore action-packed adventures but also raise questions about Mags' role in humanity's evolution and the fate of her universe.
Author Matthew Howard has lovingly crafted a zany rollercoaster of thrilling space escapades with bags of charm and quite unexpected emotional depth. The stories are all well-paced with a similar initial atmospheric feel, often filled with suspense and intrigue as they twist and turn, and offer thought-provoking reflections on life, purpose, and relationships. Whether navigating the dangers of space or engaging in poignant conversations over a game of billiards, Mags' adventures provide an entertaining and resonant reading experience. Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Meteor Mags to science fiction fans who prefer the weird, quirky, and blissfully surreal.
