In Memories: Firehouse Family Book 1 by Laurie Loveman, from the ashes of his past tragedy, Jake McCann makes his move from New York to Cleveland as the newly appointed fire chief. With his work cut out for him, Jake begins the task of getting the firehouse in decent shape and working order. Without hesitation, McCann begins doing in-depth fire inspections on the town’s buildings to make sure they are all up to safety codes. Laura Darvey is a local nurse at the growing hospital and the unhappy wife of Dan whom she suspects is doing much more than what salesmen do since he seems to have more money than his pay rate would justify. The emotion welling up between Jake and Laura is undeniable. Can they somehow find a way to be together or is the risk too great with Dan’s sadistic, gangster mentality? Will it cost their lives to finally find happiness?
Memories by Laurie Loveman has a solid plot with a new fire chief and a gangster crossing paths in a hailstorm of brilliantly detailed events that lead the chief right to the heart of the gangster’s wife. I love how Loveman created the characters. They all have deep background stories of their own that bring them smoothly into the plot without feeling like the descriptions are overdone. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a story that has it all -- love and loss, romance and drama, thrills and chills and of course the deadly rivalry that happens when a gangster is crossed by some hot shot city slicker. I absolutely loved Memories: Firehouse Family Book 1, and even the sadistic Dan Darvey with his vengeful attitude. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book!
