Melissa Weller and The Curse of Branford Manor is the first volume of The Prescott Legacy Spinoff series by Robert Sounvonnakasy. On the insistence of her talking dog, Magic, twenty-year-old Melissa Weller takes a cross-country trip to Rusellfield, Alabama, to visit Magic's ancestral home of Branford Manor. However, soon upon her arrival in the manor, Melissa is inflicted with a terrible curse that has already resulted in the deaths of many teenagers around the county. Melissa and Magic befriend a young woman named Briana, and the trio sets off to investigate the cause of the curse and find a way to nullify it. But the ghastly specter in Branford Manor isn't the only threat they face, as a vengeful sheriff and a conniving witch stand in their way. Will Melissa find the solution in ancient Shaolin Kung Fu?
Melissa Weller and The Curse of Branford Manor is a fast-paced paranormal thriller for young adults and above. Filled with mystery, suspense, and intrigue, author Robert Sounvonnakasy weaves an action-packed yarn you don't want to put down. Throughout the book, plenty of action sequences incorporate Taekwondo and Shaolin Kung Fu moves, and they are bound to sate the appetites of martial art fans. Apart from the action scenes, the fleshed-out lore about the supernatural elements is seamlessly integrated by Sounvonnakasy into the plot. I enjoyed the friendship between Melissa, Magic, and Briana. Overall, this is a brilliant first installment of a paranormal saga that lovers of the genre will relish.
