Meet May by April Martin is an educational children’s picture book about a little girl called May. With so many events going on in the month of May, little May is busy preparing for all sorts of things! From setting up her garden in preparation for the summertime to celebrating Mother’s Day, May is as busy as a bee. Thankfully, she has her trusty pet, Flutter the Butterfly, to help her. But when the weather turns unexpectedly, and her special teapot is shattered, May needs to find another way to have her Mother’s Day tea party.
Meet May by April Martin is another brilliantly written educational children’s book. Adding a ‘can you spot it’ game at the beginning of the book is a creative and entertaining way to keep young readers engaged in the storyline. True to May, the highlight of this month is the flowering of plants as summer approaches, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Cinco de Mayo, and Mother’s Day. With all these significant events in May, April Martin does a great job of including everything in a clear and concise manner, perfecting it with simplicity. I loved how the story also touched on the important subject of small insects pollinating flowers during the summertime, and the value of planning and solving any problem. There is always something to learn when reading The Calendar Kids series.
