Marriage Spells Murder by Bella Colby is Book 1 in the Wedding Witch paranormal cozy mystery series. Skylar Blackwood is a witch, but she stopped using magic when a spell backfired, and her marriage fell apart. Now, she lives in Tidewater and is a wedding celebrant. Nothing could go wrong here, could it? When a groom is poisoned by peanuts and drops dead at the altar, Skylar’s life is upended, especially when her best friend Herb is arrested. And the lead detective? Skylar’s ex-husband. She’s going to need everything she can muster to solve this crime without letting on that she’s a witch. Oh yes, and she also wants to solve it before her ex-husband does. The race is on for Skylar and Wolfie, her familiar, but how many more must die before she uncovers the truth?
Marriage Spells Murder by Bella Colby is a wonderful whodunnit with plenty of charm, humor, and romance mixed with magic and mystery. This book is all go from page one. There’s no let-up, and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing along the way. The characters are a quirky mix but wholly likable and easy to relate to. Add those to the descriptions of the sleepy little town, and you could almost wish to live there yourself. Ms. Colby has a way of writing that draws you in and makes you feel as though you are there. She has created an amazing world that I hope continues to evolve as the series progresses. This is a great start to what promises to be an excellent series, and I, for one, am looking forward to the next books.
