When nineteen-month-old Casey draws a purple number five instead of the standard Mr. Messy enjoyed by other kids her age, her grandmother cannot praise her intelligence enough. Five days later, Casey’s grandmother is dead. No one makes a connection, but years later Casey figures it out. Numbers are her thing and numbers are what she does her best to avoid. While her parents treat Casey’s lack of social engagement as a reaction to the traumatic death of her younger sister, Casey silently agrees to be their fragile child. When she touches someone, she is given the number of days that person has remaining on earth and she is determined to keep this revelation to herself. Is it a phobia, is it a curse, or is this special power a gift? As long as she is allowed to be home-schooled and not expected to mingle with the outside world, Casey is assured of not knowing more than she cares to know. But then a ridiculously “hot” stranger enters the picture and Casey fights to keep her hands to herself.

Make It Count by Tamar Sloan is a page-turning, don’t-want-it-to-end-but-have-to-know-how-it-ends YA story of epically wonderful proportions. Tamar Sloan’s ability to wrap the reader right around her little finger is magical. Energetic dialogue and spot on descriptions do not fail to engage. For all those Sara Dessen fans out there, Tamar Sloan is an absolute MUST. While considered a “clean” read, there is still enough romance and teenage reality to put Sloan’s books on the best seller shelf. I am so glad to have found this author.
