Magic & Mayhem by JM Hughson is the second book in the Idlebury series. Meet Prince Thane of Idlebury. He’s got special powers, but they might just be the death of him. Now Thane is on a journey through the Thirteen Dimensions, reciting a curse as he goes, creating havoc all over the place and doing magic he really shouldn’t be dabbling in. It’s no secret to the rest of the Universe that Thane has got his hands on a book that has long been lost and probably should have stayed that way – A Magic Maniac’s Many Ways to Make Mischief. But others want the book, and a battle begins. Realizing he is in serious danger, Thane turns to his sister Gwen in Dimension X. She works out the curse, learning that three of the most powerful kings are planning to kill Thane and steal the book, gaining control of everything. Will Thane let this happen? Can he stop it? Magic & Mayhem by JM Hughson is an excellent second book in the Idlebury series and, having read the first one, this one did not disappoint. This is another page-turning magical mystery story, every page full of action and fantastic characters that come to life before your very eyes. This is a complex story but easy to read and follow. Although it could be read as a standalone, like any series, the books are best read in order, especially as we welcome characters from book 1 alongside new ones. The story develops steadily throughout as our main character battles to stop the mayhem he started, and it will keep you turning the pages – you won’t want to put it down. A thrilling tale of real magic and mayhem, another excellent offering from JM Hughson.
