In Lyons' Girl, author Amber Mosby introduces us to Jade Finchley, a black teenage girl, endowed with superpowers who is given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to be part of a project carried out by Max Lyons, a mysterious millionaire in his luxurious estate, along with other gifted teenagers from all around the world. There, she not only learns to develop her powers beyond her own belief, but she also finds love in the handsome Scot, Dylan. What's more, she creates bonds of friendship with her fellow students and discovers a truth that had been kept from her all her life. It had been the source of her troubled relationship with her mother and had ruined her self-image and trust in people.
Amber Mosley's Lyon's Girl is a coming-of-age novel which captured my interest from the first page. The plot flows rapidly, though in no way does the reader feel rushed. Rather, the fast pace, the realistic dialogues, and the vivid descriptions make Lyons' Girl a book you don't want to put down. Additionally, the sensitivity with which the author depicts the finer nuances of each person's personality and background adds to what might have been just another teenage novel. The reader will feel drawn to the drama of each one of the characters and sympathize with them, as they are ordinary, everyday kids who want to be accepted and discover their place in the world.
Lyon's Girl is a novel I would definitely recommend to teenage girls, as they undoubtedly will find common ground with one of the many interesting characters in this unusual plot.
