Love’s Great Plan by Regina Puckett opens as Coty Warren, a police officer investigating reports of gang disturbances, is preparing to get out of his car. Looking up through his car window, he is shot without warning or any apparent motive by a teenage boy. As a reflex, Coty has drawn his gun and returned fire. The end result is one badly wounded police officer and one dead teenager. Amanda is a pediatric nurse and has been dating Coty for some time, though the relationship has not thus far progressed beyond a platonic friendship, as both are cautious and tread gently around Amanda’s tragic family history. Coty is the son of two very famous film stars and there is a great deal of media interest as he is taken to the hospital where Amanda is on duty.
As spiteful media reports claiming Coty has murdered a child emerge, he tries to protect Amanda and separate her from the media circus which is sure to ensue. He tries to prevent (clumsily at times) the tragic events surrounding her family being somehow linked into his own tragedy - the shooting of a fifteen-year-old boy. Two proud but heartbroken individuals are forced apart and as their fragile relationship starts to disintegrate, despite the best efforts of their friends, they both start to wonder if a clean break would be the best thing for all concerned.
Love’s Great Plan is book four in the Warren Family series, though it is in no way necessary to read the previous books to enjoy this moving tale. Regina Puckett is an experienced author who is able to create solid, well-rounded characters in credible situations. Though this is my first introduction to the Warren family, I had no difficulty in entering their world and enjoyed making their acquaintance. Another great novel from an accomplished author and highly recommended.
