Love Under Siege (A Huguenot Romance) by Sonja S. Key is a Christian historical fiction/romance story that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who enjoy love stories that are more in-depth than 'love at first sight' encounters. Violette de la Marne has lived a good portion of her life believing that her mother and father died when she was four years old. Violette learns that this is a lie when her grandfather makes a deathbed confession. This revelation changes Violette’s life in a tremendous way, which leads to her refusing an arranged marriage and instead deciding to put her faith in God. Violette sets out to find her parents and true love for herself.
Love Under Siege (A Huguenot Romance) by Sonja S. Key is a well written romance that I enjoyed so much I finished it in just one reading. I found Violette de la Marne to be a compelling character with how she was not willing to sit at home and wait for love to find her, but was instead willing to follow her heart and her faith in the hopes of finding the parents she had believed to be dead and true love. The author did a simply marvelous job with staying true to the historical aspects of the setting in regards to the locations, types of characters, and historic figures of the book. Overall, I found that this was a story that I not only enjoyed reading, but it inspired me to believe that true love can exist, but that it is nothing like the 'love at first sight' that is often portrayed in romantic movies.
