Nobody’s perfect. We all have our challenges in life. But imagine you’re a dog that doesn’t bark, a dog that desperately hopes and dreams of having a forever home. That’s Cooper. He can’t bark. He’s been adopted several times, given different names and returned to the shelter when the adopting family discovers he can’t bark. Then, along comes Little Boy Ben and his family. The boy insists he wants to adopt Cooper. At his new home, Cooper tries desperately to bark, but to no avail. Even the doorbell doesn’t make him bark. Still, the family keeps him and showers him with love and attention. Then one day, a tragic event forces Cooper to give it his best try. His Little Boy Ben needs help.
Tina Pearson’s picture book story, Love One Another: Book 1 Cooper, will touch the hearts of all its young readers. Children who struggle to do the simplest tasks will relate to Cooper’s struggle with his own shortcomings: his inability to bark. But Cooper doesn’t give up and when the time comes that he really needs to bark, it finally comes out. It’s his love for his Little Boy Ben that inspires Cooper to try his hardest when his bark is needed the most. The story also teaches young readers the importance of loving one another regardless of our differences and our inability to do simple tasks. The story develops slowly with compassion as the reader warms up to the charming puppy who can’t bark. The illustrations are interesting and help move the story along. A fun and compassionate story.
