Love Never Quits is a true to life memoir penned by author Gina Heumann which recounts the experience of ‘Surviving and Thriving After Infertility, Adoption and Reactive Attachment Disorder’. This heart-breaking but ultimately heart-warming family drama focuses on Gina and Aaron, a married couple who want to have children, but find themselves unable to conceive. When they adopt Landrey from Guatemala, and later Maddox, their lives change in unbelievable ways. Maddox suffers from RAD, a condition suffered by children who experience very early trauma in their lives. The memoir recounts the whole experience of learning to raise a child with RAD, through its pitfalls and the eventual success of holding a family together and seeing their son thrive.
The many challenges of life are explored with a kind and calm narration by author Gina Heumann, who has much to teach readers about patience, faith and never giving up on those that you love. The prose is well delivered and beautifully formatted into easily digestible chapters, moving the initial stages of the tale along at a pace so she can focus on those most turbulent times with Maddox, and how she and her family got through them together. It was fascinating to read this honest, and often shocking, account of how RAD manifests itself, but Gina has a way of not dwelling on the most heart-breaking parts, focusing instead on the determination to help this poor child get over his traumas. Overall, Love Never Quits is a moving memoir and highly recommended for any parent.
