Lou Found a Clue is a picture book for younger readers. Written by Laura Day and illustrated by Ksinnea Kudriavtseva, it tells the story of Lou, a young red-haired boy who is out taking a walk. Along the way, Lou finds something shiny on the ground which puzzles him. By picking the object up and carefully analyzing all of the clues he has discovered regarding it, Lou is able to figure out what the treasure is which he now holds in his hands, and is finally able to put the treasure to good use.

I enjoyed the sheer simplicity of Lou Found a Clue, a story that takes a young reader on a surprise-laden journey with the young star of the story. While tagging along with Lou, readers are able to use their own minds in order to analyze the puzzle themselves. The joy and pride which Lou feels toward the end of the book made me smile. I believe that Laura Day’s spin on such a simple tale will bring a smile to readers aged 4-8 who are learning about the different coins in the currency system of their own country, as well as the value of a dollar. Lou teaches us all that a simple shiny object which has fallen on the ground could very well make someone's day and turn their frown upside down. Stories such as Lou Found a Clue might even get the current generation out of the screens of their smartphones and back into the wonderful world of literature, where imagination is a true gift.
