Author Biography

Corbin Lewars began writing books when she was five years old. If you count the ones that are glued and stapled, she is the author of twenty-nine books. If you don’t, she is the author of three: Creating a Life: The memoir of a writer and mom in the making, which was nominated for the 2011 PNBA and Washington State book award, the divorce guide book Losing Him, Gaining You (February, 2014), and the novel Swings which will be released in March of 2015.

Her essays have been featured in over twenty-five publications, including Mothering, Stories with Grace, Hip Mama and several anthologies. She writes columns for the Seattle PI and Ballard News Tribune. She was the founder of the zine Reality Mom for eight years and the editor of Verve, a Seattle women's magazine, for two. For the past fifteen years she has freelanced as a developmental editor and writing coach. She holds a Master’s in Education and teaches writing classes at the Richard Hugo House and national conferences.

Losing Him, Gaining You: Divorce as Opportunity by Corbin Lewars is a book that is helpful to those who are going through the process of a divorce. No one wants to end a marriage, but this book comes in handy to those who are going through that low phase in their lives. The author's personal experiences, tips and guidance help readers connect with the book on a personal level. The book is a must-read for all those going through this challenging phase, and what makes it a good read is because it is non-judgmental and realistic. The book has tips on how to handle your life and the lives of your children during and after the difficult period.

Divorce is hard but the author shares the views of many women who agree that they are happier divorced and they did the right thing by leaving their marriages. The book says that, more than the divorce, it is angry, resentful and unhappy parents that cause harm to their kids. The book does not recommend divorce, but it is a helpful book for those who have decided to break away from their marriages and start life again. It is a comforting and easy read. Corbin Lewars covers the topic extensively and touches on all the angles and details that need to be looked into in a divorce. The book teaches you to trust, cherish and focus on yourself and growing and healing, instead of focusing on the past and ruining your future.
