Lora Lee: Cliff House Series Book 1 by PJ Webb is an amazing tale of a woman who gets one more chance at happiness, which is now threatened by forces that may be beyond her control. Lora Lee’s world came crashing down when a girl set her house on fire, killing her whole family. Living in an orphanage is not nice, especially when you know you are going to be alone when you leave the place. But when she is about to set out into the world on her own, she discovers that she has a grandmother who wants Lora to stay with her.
Overjoyed at having family and someone to lean on, she moves to Cliff House with her grandmother. It is everything she ever hoped for. Plus, there is a neighbor who is handsome and she thinks she might be falling in love with him. Nonetheless, when she starts to dig deeper into the history of the house, strange things happen. She hears voices, has nightmares, and other things occur that cannot be explained. Is this all in her head? Or is there something that does not want Lora there? Is she not destined for the comfort of a family?
This is brilliant, simply brilliant. I don’t really like novels with ghosts; I am more of a vampires/mutants kind of girl. Nevertheless, this is just something out of this world. Lora is amazingly resilient. Charlie is cool and the ghost is terrifyingly good. I loved the mystery, the thrill, and the way Lora wanted to find out what was happening instead of running away. That is admirable. This definitely has the potential to be a fantastic series.
