“I love myself. I love me and everything about me.” Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and said these words? Little Nikki didn’t; at least, not at first. She was born into a loving family and told from a young age that she was special. And she felt special: happy, loved, and playful. Things changed when she started school. At first, all the other girls were friendly, but then the girls all grew and matured at different times and in different ways. The other girls started making fun of Little Nikki; they started to bully her. Although she loved school, Little Nikki was losing her inner shine as she felt ostracized by the others. She remembered a book her teacher shared in class and decided to give the advice from the book a try. That’s when she stood in front of the mirror and said those simple words. That’s when things started to change again, and her inner shine returned. You see, we all have to like ourselves at all times, even when it seems like the entire world is against us. If we feel good about ourselves, then our inner light will shine like no other.
Nicole Marshall’s picture book story, Little Nikki - Her Journey to Self-Love: A children's book about self-love, self-esteem, and growth, follows a little girl’s journey through bullying. Told in simple language, in a narrative style like a storyteller, and accompanied by bright, bold, and colorful illustrations, this story is heartwarming and compassionate, tender and sincere, and full of the inner light that we all must reveal for the world to see. Bullying is a difficult issue, not just amongst children, but also amongst adults. People don’t realize how much bullying hurts and how much damage it can do to a person. However, following Little Nikki’s example, anyone can overcome the challenges presented by bullies and keep their inner light shining. This is a stunningly beautiful story that will shed some light on a troubling blight on humanity.
