Little Dove by KC Decker is a scorching and suspenseful romance novel centered around the lead character, Etta Freeman. In a story told in the first person, Etta begins by describing, in excruciatingly vivid detail, a violent assault and strangulation she has gone through. Is she dead? “I can confirm the presence of an intense white light, and I can also confirm that I wanted nothing more than to be swallowed up by that light.” She isn't, but being so close to death left her with the ability to see other people's energy, which varies based on the type of person they are. Enter Dallas, a smoking hot but horrible human being who might be Etta's salvation.
Little Dove by KC Decker is absolutely engrossing from the start. I admit that the first couple of pages were hard to read – exceptionally well written – but super difficult. However, the voice Decker has given Etta is so good it's impossible to turn away from it. She is blunt and sassy. She's vulnerable in many ways but she is also really angry. She has a gift that she sees as a curse. And then there's Dallas. Dallas. The antihero alpha who is so deliciously bad that he's imperfectly perfect...because of course he is. But it's Etta who propels the plot here. Decker writes with a flourish and a panache that is missing from the onslaught of New Adult books on the table right now, and I'd enthusiastically recommend Little Dove to all who are interested in having their faith in the genre restored.
