Woodward, better known as Woody, a 74-year-old military and black-ops sniper assassin for the U.S. government, is a man cut from a different cloth. Retired and recently relocated to Jekyll Island on the coast of Georgia, Woody meets another veteran who not only shares many of his military experiences but also his love of philosophical discourse. The pair meets frequently at a local restaurant where Woody’s keen eye spots a peculiar situation and they quickly discover a potential international sex trafficking ring. His nature, his training, and his background will not allow Woody to rest until he solves the puzzle and brings the perpetrators to justice. Lines Through a Prism is two books in one as Bob Siqveland mixes a philosophical storyline with the use of dialog with his new-found friend, Curtis, together with an exciting mystery and detective story.
If you’ve never heard of nor read a book that falls into the genre of upmarket, then you’re in for a real treat with Lines Through a Prism by Bob Siqveland. Upmarket novels are those that mix two fiction categories, literary and commercial, to provide a story that is at once a study of the human condition and often an exploration of difficult social or political issues, mixed with the ingredients of genre fiction such as a mystery, thriller, or action story. Woody is the perfect hero. In appearance, he is a quiet, normal father and grandfather who has not only retained all his physical skills, but also a younger man’s mental acuity and sense of justice. All the characters are true to life, the fight scenes and detective work are remarkably realistic, and the metaphysical discourse between Curtis and Woody is enlightening and apropos of the main storyline.
