Lighting Diagrams by Brian Parkin is a practical, concise resource for any beginner photographer. Parkin simplifies the complex nature of studio lighting in an easy-to-use book consisting of descriptions alongside diagrams and examples. This book would be most beneficial for estimating the best position for the desired photographic result. This informative book includes topics such as taking portraits of babies and pets. Parkin explains the effects of continuous lighting, full lights, and what to consider when using a diffuser. There are large-sized diagrams of every lighting setup. The diagrams show the position of the camera, the model, and the lighting source or reflector/diffuser. Parkin describes the main types of studio lights, namely Fluorescent, LED, and Tungsten.
Lighting Diagrams by Brian Parkin is a must-have invaluable tool for novice photographers. I was impressed that this is the third edition and incorporates the suggestions made by previous readers. It shows his dedication to perfecting the information compiled on studio photography. Lighting Diagrams offers a wealth of knowledge because of the intuitive skills it will bring to the practicing photographer. These skills potentially, I would imagine, could be extended, once mastery is achieved, to many situations. This book is brilliant because the amateur photographer can learn easily and quickly. Even when taking selfies, a common practice, any knowledge of the lighting diagrams might come in handy. My favorite part is that there is a section on shooting tabletop objects. It includes a noteworthy picture of the Tabletop Lighting Setup.
