Light of the Heart: Sterling Lakes Series, Book 1 is an inspirational fiction story and Christian romance by Regina Andrews. Cascade Preston is twenty-seven years old, single, and a world famous stained glass artist. She blames the people of Sterling Lakes for failing to intervene in her family’s domestic abuse history which has left her mother in a coma for twenty years, and refuses to take any work coming from the town. Handsome thirty-one-year-old Dan McQuay, the single project manager for a church renovation in Sterling Lakes, shows up one day looking for the plans and specifications for the windows. He believes Cascade has agreed to design them, only to find out that someone else signed her name to the contract. Suddenly, Cascade is placed in the position of confronting a past she preferred to avoid, and possibly changing her own future in the process.
In Light of the Heart, Andrews has written a sweet story of faith, love, truth, trust, and forgiveness. Cascade and Dan are both sympathetic protagonists with their own strengths and self-doubts. The plot moves along at a good pace and the narrative flows from scene to scene. There is a wide variety of characters and sufficient plot twists and turns to engage the reader throughout. The unfolding friendship and romance between Cascade and Dan is touching as each slowly opens up to the other and gives each other a new perspective. Some of the situations and dialog felt a little awkward. That being said, the story is full of moments which carry the theme beautifully. An entertaining and uplifting read.
