Letting Purpose and Passion Drive Your Marriage: How to Find Harmony and Happiness No Matter What by Bonnie and Dr. Jay Crandall is well-written with content that is relevant to married couples who seek to continue in a happy and joy-filled marriage. The Crandalls cover topics important to marriage including boundaries, conflict resolution, trust, loyalty, and more. What makes this book authentic and relevant is that the authors have both previously experienced divorce, making it all the more important to them to find a way to make things work and use what they found to help others. I appreciated the exhaustive research they did in preparation for writing this book, reading up on the subject and observing other couples.
I especially liked how authors Bonnie and Jay Crandall explain that marriage isn’t a 50/50 proposition, but a 100/100 commitment in their book. Too many people think that it’s enough to just give halfway, when a happy and successful marriage takes everything you’ve got. What I found enjoyable was not only the quotable quotes spread throughout, but also the Exercises at the end of each chapter. These allowed me to practice what the chapter taught me, and reflect on my own thoughts, because it's so much more effective for the reader to be able to apply the principles to their own lives than to just read the advice in a book.
