Letter to a Dandelion: Earth Verse for Gardeners & Nature Lovers by Jeffry Glover is a wonderful collection of poems dedicated to the earth, to our flora and fauna. It is also dedicated to gardeners and keen observers of nature. It is comprehensive and includes different sections such as “When Mowing Harkens" and “Golden Days of Summer." Among these, “Leaves on Grass” and “Winter Wonders” stand out. They epitomize the greatness of seasons, plants, and life at its best. It is a true wonder of beauty, hope, humor, peace, and simplicity. The title is intriguing: why “to a dandelion”? I believe it shows that what truly matters to the author is nature. That is something I can relate to.
Letter to a Dandelion by Jeffry Glover is an extraordinary read! I was particularly struck by the opening poem, “Welcome to Our Yard and Garden”, which invites readers to immerse themselves in a journey of discovery and reverence for the natural world. Reading this collection on a winter’s day, I found myself captivated by its lyrical simplicity and the heartfelt love it conveys for nature's treasures. Each poem celebrates life's cycles, from the labor of tending a garden to the joy of witnessing the beauty of fleeting blossoms. I will read the poems about each season again, whenever the seasons change. I have just asked my students to write haikus about the environment, so you can only imagine how much I love this poetry! I read this collection "with pleasure at my leisure." I warmly recommend this gem of a book!
