Let's Plant an Eleu by author Casey Reinl tells the magical story of young Eleu, who plants curls of her hair in the hope that hundreds of little Eleus will grow from them. In her mind, the little Eleus will do her chores and leave her to have fun. At first, Eleu's father expresses doubt about her plans and is not as excited by the prospect as she is. He also worries that her fantasy will not turn out favorably. Will the little Eleus grow into workers, or will her father's doubts and warnings prove to be true? Embark on a fun-filled adventure with young Eleu as her fantasy story unfolds.
Children, especially younger children, have wild imaginations, and I think it is important that their minds are stimulated with imaginative stories of adventure. Casey Reinl's Let's Plant an Eleu falls into this category and will do very well to captivate the imaginations of its young audience. The text consists of rhyming words, very much like a fairy tale and nursery rhyme blended into one. The rhyming is playful and often features a dialogue between Eleu and her father, whom she calls Dada. Eleu speaks excitedly about her plans, and Dada replies lovingly, but often with a sense of caution about the situation. The vivid illustrations are imaginative and bright, keeping up with the story's magical theme. Altogether, Let's Plant an Eleu is a fun, adventurous, and playful read that is perfect for younger children and loving parents alike.
