Author Biography

Although I grew up as an "Army brat" many of my relatives are farmers. I was exposed to many different animals and family situations. Today's culture is so raw I thought children could use some role models about kindness and helpfulness.
Military families and farm families always help each other.

Let’s Be Friends by S.K. Cromwell is an animal storybook for children. Hortense the Horse was walking along a trail when she noticed Natalie the Woodmouse had a limp and offered to take her home. The two quickly became friends. Carlyle the Cow was grazing in Farmer Meyer’s barnyard when a fat juicy bug dropped on her head. Henrietta the Hen, who was searching for bugs, saw what happened and was more than pleased to take the insect off Carlyle’s head. Now they always dine together. When Marilyn the Meerkat could not reach the high places to be a lookout for her troop, Gerald the Giraffe offered to help by giving her a ride and their friendship grew.

Let’s Be Friends is a collection of short stories educating small children about the importance of being kind and doing helpful deeds for others. It’s a sure way to make new friends and strengthen the bonds with the ones they already have. In her stories, S.K. Cromwell demonstrates how different animal species of all sizes are able to get along with each other. She wrote this novella from her own travel experiences, growing up as the daughter of a career Army father. Her family regularly moved to new locations where she learned to adapt and make friends, many of whom she is still in contact with. The illustrations are great and I like the writing font used as it has a handwritten appearance. This novella is ideal for both classrooms and homes.

Beautiful pictures illustrate the connection between animal friends despite their differences. Great story to read to young audiences discussing the meaning of friendship.

The kids loved this book because it was so readable. The whimsical and colorful artwork made it even more appealing. It is a great book for kids learning to read, as well as a fun book to read to a younger child. The stories are simple and keep a child’s attention. The artwork focuses children on the story.. it would be a great baby gift, or a gift to any early reader. I keep one on had for that purpose.

Delightful book about friendship between the unlikeliest of characters. The illustrations alone are worth the price of admission. (Can you spot a theme?) Highly recommended.

A very sweet book! It teaches children how to be a good friend by helping others. Farmer Meyers place is very busy with visitors. The art work is wonderful and it's a nice book for children.

My daughter loved this book when she was younger, especially the clever artwork and the friendships formed between the diverse creatures on the farm.
Strongly recommended.
