Legend of the Tempest Teaser is a work of fiction in the fantasy, adventure, and mystery subgenres. It is intended for the young adult reading audience and was penned by author Kristiana Sfirlea. We are introduced to Sephone Darrow, a character who's weary of being the expected savior, the Chosen One. As Sephone's team searches for the legendary Mouth of Eternity, they find themselves trapped in a prison with dangerous secrets. An infamous inmate has vanished, and strange injuries afflict the prisoners while ghostly apparitions linger in the shadows. The story takes an even more captivating turn when a traveling wax museum featuring familiar faces arrives at Heartstone Asylum.
Author Kristiana Sfirlea's writing sets an enticing tone for an adventure that promises to be filled with unexpected twists and turns, and this engaging novel never disappoints readers from start to finish on that score. One of the features that really impressed me and kept the storytelling fresh was the dual plot threads of both Sephone's and Rose’s mysteries. The tension between them is palpable, with deeply engaging dialogue that sets each of them up as a heroic figure, but it gets clearer and clearer as the plot unfolds that their combined strength is the key to success. This makes for a really satisfying message for the YA audience as they settle their differences and face individual and collective fears in order to grow stronger and wiser. Overall, I would certainly recommend Legend of the Tempest Teaser to fantasy readers everywhere seeking an intriguing mix of different eerie influences that crank up both atmosphere and adventure to the max.
