In January 2009, Barack Obama will be inaugurated as the President of the The United States. Dr. Charles N. Smith was a strong supporter of President Elect Obama. He presents his reasons in a well-organized manner. My one criticism is the continued use of the phrase Black Americans. Race was not to be an issue in this election, yet in this book, it is repeatedly pointed out. The title of this book does not fit Obama either. I do not see him as a “last.” Smith does a superb job of stating Obama’s political stance. It is yet to be seen whether Barack Obama is the hope of a people forgotten or a man whose time has come.

However, this book does not focus completely on Obama. It heralds many Black Americans and their achievements.

The purpose of this book was to convince voters to support Obama. I’d say the author was successful.
