Lake of Fire is a well written, entertaining and quick read. The plot centers around a group of cops being paid by relatives and friends of victims to enforce vigilante justice where the legal system has let them down. I never like to reveal more about the plot than what the author has disclosed in the synopsis as it spoils the story for future readers. In this case, the son of a policeman murdered 20 years earlier joins the force and is determined to track down his father's killer. The novella is eighty pages of high paced action and I enjoyed it very much. Make yourself a cup of coffee before you start reading, because once you start, it's hard to drag yourself away.
Billy Pepitone does a good job of back grounding the characters and the story unfolds at a rapid pace. I read at high speed and there was only one line in the novella that slowed me down, and which I had to read a number of times. In most books I read this occurs many times, so it's a compliment to the author that it only occurred once. Billy Pepitone is a retired New York policeman, so it comes as no surprise that he knows his stuff. I enjoyed Lake of Fire. This is a well told, enjoyable, good read. The plot is good, the story is told at a good pace, and I enjoyed the twists at the end.
