It's the mark of a great story when you have to fight the urge, every step of the way, to flip to the end and see how it all turns out. And that's why I'm glad I read Lady Sun on a Kindle, because if this had been a softcover book in my hand, I surely would have done it. Yes, I suppose I could have done the same thing with my Kindle as well, but pushing a few buttons requires more mental energy than simply flicking one's wrist and exposing the last page of a softcover!

What a great story. Simply phenomenal.

Sophie Canon, a thirty-something divorced woman has lived the solitary life of a farmer, far away from the rat race of the big city. Following a bitter divorce from her Ex ("The Snake"), she decides to leave Western civilization behind, spending her savings on a journey to the Maldives, where she plans to do nothing but soak up the sun, partake of umbrella drinks and, to quote Billy Joel, "forget about life for a while." She no sooner arrives than she meets Lucas, a handsome cowboy from Montana who is fleeing his own private hell, a divorce from his unfaithful wife.

But both of them get a rude awakening when their trip to paradise is hijacked by modern-day pirates. Escaping at the first opportunity, Sophia and Lucas are soon cast adrift in tropical seas. And from there the pair must battle scorching heat, furious storms, and pretty much every roadblock Mother Nature can throw at them. The two total strangers must quickly learn to depend on each other for their survival, and the bond that they form is both heart-warming and gut-wrenching.

As I said, I wanted to flip to the last page almost right from the get-go to see if they would survive their ordeal and make it back to civilization, but I somehow resisted the temptation. Thank you, Kindle.

Marni MacRae's first-person writing style is fluid, classy, and descriptive. The emotions she draws out of you are both provocative and evocative, and you feel every single emotion that Sophia and Lucas must endure as they struggle to survive. By the end, I was as emotionally spent as if I'd undergone it with them, and that is all due to MacRae's brilliant writing.

I have not read many books as romantic or adventurous as Lady Sun, but I would recommend it to anyone whether they are fans of the genre or not. The book will fill your heart, rend it asunder, and then piece it together again. It is a great tale of the triumph of the human spirit, and of a love that almost defies description.

I cannot even begin to describe the many ways that I loved this book.

There were so many times I felt like the author was inside my own head, because I’ve seriously had so many of Sophia’s thoughts.

Her inner monologue was nothing short of hilarious, and I found myself laughing along with her observations. The cramped international flight thing? Yea I’ve totally done the whole sitting on someone’s lap trying to get to the aisle. And that hair braid thing? I do that too on flights! Llama hair? Yep, check.

But what really got me excited was…. wait for it…. Lucas being a Montana Native. Seriously I was jumping up and down with joy, because yours truly is a Montana Native, and well we are very proud of our state. It’s so true what the author said about all of us Washington/ Idaho/ Montanans feeling like neighbors.

Now, onto Sophia. I loved her as a character. Country girls come prepared, and Sophia was definitely prepared for her misadventure. Thank goodness, because her and Lucas went through some pretty crazy stuff together. I loved their ingenuity and even picked up a few tips in case I ever happened to be stranded on an island.

Towards the end I was literally biting my nails in fear for Lucas, and may have had a slight emotional breakdown. After some wine therapy, I came to the conclusion that he was a Montana guy, and I just needed to have some more faith in him.

In the end, I was right, and over the moon with excitement with the way things turned out.

This is a book that will make you laugh, cry, cringe, and smile right along with the characters. I see this one going places, and can’t wait to see what else this author has in store for us.

On the one hand, this is a light, enjoyable read. The brief prologue is well placed because I think it keeps the reader engaged over what (in the version I read) was a slightly bumpy beginning that didn’t communicate Sophia’s personality right away (Sophia is one of two main characters and is also the narrator). But only a short way in, when Sophia begins trying to engage Lucas (the second main character) in conversation, she leaps off the page as lovable, socially fearless, and endearingly bumbling. At that point, I laughed out loud at something she said and was completely hooked.

One major accomplishment of the novel is that across the remainder of the book, we slowly come to know these two characters much more deeply — both through their actions and what they reveal to one another. Neither Sophie nor Lucas is a stereotype. They are both painted quite well — and quite gradually — so that by the end of the book I almost expected to meet them somewhere. As a result, I came to truly care about them both.

But Lady Sun is an interesting read for another reason as well. I found that my experience of what happens to the two characters was colored by Sophia’s thinking as the first-person narrator. It’s no secret from the prologue that the trip to “paradise” the two characters embark upon (for very different reasons) goes terribly wrong. And yet, the dynamic of the positive relationship that develops between Sophia and Lucas counters that and kept me from taking these events as seriously as I should have — which is also what happens to Sophia. I don’t want to give spoilers, so I will just say that MacRae very slowly pulls back the curtain on the impact events have on her characters. As she does, Sophia slowly awakens from her love-induced delusions -- and I, too, realized I should have seen the likelihood of these effects from the beginning. Clearly, I didn’t want to! Love is a drug and we all want to relish its highs and vanquish its lows. As the book progresses toward its climax and denouement, I really worried about what was going to happen to these characters.

There are so many things I loved about this story.
I loved that it was compelling, touching, funny and yet angsty at the same time. I loved the rollercoaster romance, the anticipation, the different setting and the fact it was so, SO original. A thirty-something heroine, Sophia, who is a divorcee, a woman who knows who she is and what she wants from life.
The drama of Sophia and Lucas' adventure (aww, I'm certainly not going to spoil that one for you, you'll have to read it for yourself!) kept me on edge and I literally found myself reading the whole novel in one sitting. I don't remember the last time it's happened to me.
Lucas, by the way, was the perfect, mysterious alpha male.

I had just read a real heavy suspense book and needed something light - so I thought this looked like a fun read. Was I pleasantly surprised!! Yes, the first half of the book was a little far out there but it was written so well, I kept reading. By the middle of the book, I was totally invested in Lucas and Sophia. I stayed up late, got up early to read what would be their next adventure. I laughed and cried during this crazy roller coaster tale. It was extremely entertaining and I would definitely recommend it.

If you like romance mixed with adventure, this is the book for you! Sophia is a country girl (owns her own farm) who decides to get away from the Washington (state, not D.C.) winter with a vacation on an almost deserted tropical island. Pirates have other plans and take over the yacht sent to transport Sophia and another guest—a sexy Montana cowboy named Lucas— to the island. Thanks to Lucas, they make an escape on a small raft. Adrift for days, they find themselves attracted to each other and begin to fall in love. They survive sunburn, thirst, hunger, and a storm at sea, eventually ending up on an island that is truly deserted, not just “pretend” deserted like the tourist one they had been heading to.

The story of how they survive and fall deeper in love during the weeks they spend on the island is enchanting! Mixed in with the romance and adventure are tidbits of information about how to use aloe plants in lieu of antibiotics and how to make fuel from fruit—I googled and found the author knew what she was talking about with this and the other details of how they survived. I loved all the characters, but especially Sophia—I mean, how can you not love a character who has beer and premixed cocktails in her purse and a medicine kit in her suitcase when she finds herself lost at sea with a sexy cowboy! I alternated between laughing, googling information of interest, and tearing up while reading this book. Good going, Ms. MacRae! Looking forward to more from you!

When I started reading "Lady Sun," I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I read a lot of contemporary romance, but this was unlike anything I had ever read before. It had pirates, adventure and ended up being a really fun read.

Without giving too much away, the story focuses on Sophia and Lucas -- strangers traveling to the same "deserted" island. Both carry the pain of failed marriages/divorces with them. As they are traveling to the island, their yacht is overtaken by pirates.

And then the real adventure begins.

Before reading "Lady Sun," I read a few reviews that mentioned the beginning started off a little slowly. While it's not the I-can't-turn-the-page-fast-enough pace found toward the end of the book, don't let that deter you. I found it interesting as Sophia was going over everything she had packed and the items she was buying in the gift shop -- in the back of my mind, I knew these would come into play somehow later in the book.

For me, Sophia was smart, funny, witty, pop culture-obsessed and definitely not a damsel in distress. She was an extremely likeable character and her voice was a refreshing one. Lucas was equally as likeable, although the reader doesn't get to find out quite as much about him because the story is told through Sophia's point of view.

MacRae does a wonderful job of crafting characters that the reader truly becomes invested in and connected to -- which is definitely a good thing because, for the majority of the book, the only characters are Sophia and Lucas.

It was easy to get swept up in this love story. If you're a fan of contemporary romance, I would highly recommend "Lady Sun."

Unfortunately, Lucas who appears to be a misplaced cowboy, doesn't want to give her the time of day. It doesn't take Sophia long to figure out, he chose the deserted island for the same reasons she did. To be alone.
When their desire for solitude takes an unexpected turn, they form an alliance which may be their only hope for survival...
Ms. MacRae did a wonderful job of creating strong, likable characters. I was totally immersed in their story and rooting for them every step of the way. Lady Sun was a real page turner. I would highly recommend this book to every chick lit, or romance lover out there.

Oh my God! I totally enjoyed reading this book. It was like a breath of fresh air. Funny, witty and amazing with likeable characters.

"I'm on a boat with pirates and a cowboy. I felt like I was in a movie, waiting for my cue, for the director to yell “Cut.” It seemed all just too surreal."

Sophia was carefree, charming, quirky and strong. I loved how her inner-self would dream, think and hope, and how she was never ashamed to show what she was thinking.

"It was distracting and beautiful, like watching a work of art or an opening scene to porn, I couldn’t decide."

If you think there's a damsel in distress in this story, think again. Sophia was able to pull her weight in helping Lucas, despite all the despair and desperation.

"He stared at me like I was a curious animal he wanted to pet but wasn’t sure if I would bite."

What a thrill it was to find out that Lucas had a humorous side to him too. They way both of them would talk and imagine things only made the reading so lighthearted. I didn't even care that they were stranded because of the little make-believe world they had built on the island.

I loved the narration! It was funny and I have to admit that I laughed out loud in the office (sneaky me!). Marni MacRae manages to keep the book romantic and humorous, even when the characters were facing uncertainties. I was totally there on the island with Sophia and Lucas (invisible to them of course!). I smiled and smiled and smiled... oh, you get it! We all know that sometimes it's so easy to fall in love and that's what happens in the book. Looking forward to more witty-humorous-adventurous-romance stories from Ms MacRae. A highly recommended charming read!

What a great light read! I found Sophia hilarious and would catch myself laughing out loud at her witty personality. She fell in love with the idea of leaving it all behind and traveling to a far away deserted island. Haven’t we all wondered what that would be like? Two years after divorcing her ex who she calls “The Snake” she carefully plans it all out. From the packing, to the travel arrangements and all the flights she would have to take. (We can tell this girl did some research.) With all the preparations done she was on her way to live her dream. Once she arrives we met Lucas who is closed off. (Don’t we love those sexy closed off men) He was also coming out of a divorce but his was still very fresh. The two find themselves in a bad situation and we get to go along for the ride. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more from Marni.

I haven’t read many contemporary romances. I’m so glad that I gave Lady Sun by author Marni Macrae a chance. It was an enjoyable read right from the beginning. Sophie’s upbeat and sassy personality radiated off the pages.

The dialogue is realistic and full of humor. The right amount of sarcasm added so much fun for the ride. The plot abounds with surprises.
What completely hooked me and made me emotionally invested was spending time with Lucas and Sophie on a lifeboat after their fleeing from the pirates. The slow-build relationship that led to inevitable romance is plausible. The pair formed a unique bond and made love while struggling to overcome all sorts of obstacles in the tropical seas. The sweet romance became more and more delicious like a good glass of wine in a breezing summer time.

Do you know what I love? Strong females and witty repartee. Know what else I like? Super adorable main men with equally witty comebacks. This book has them both, in spades. I loved the light fun dialogue and inner monologues, the page turning suspense, and of course, the romance between Sophia and Lucas. Definitely must read when chilling poolside or hanging out at the beach this summer :)

I literally finished this book just a few minutes ago during my lunch break. And I want to start with saying that I’m not the best romance writer, but I love reading it and this book hit me directly in my sweet spot when that aspect began taking off. The adventure was great, but I may think twice about my vacation this summer.
Sophia was such a strong character. I know that term is overused, so let me explain a little by what I mean in terms of “strong” – I mean she was vivid, her voice was distinct. I literally pictured what she looked like, imagined all of her mannerisms and quirks inside my head as I was reading. She stood out to me and was different in a good way because a lot of romances seem to read somewhat alike in terms of the female lead. Her initial focus was on having a nice vacation and not finding a man despite the divorce and people nagging her about her love life. But when she DID find that man, I have to admit that I loved it! Who can resist a blue-eyed cowboy with a grumpy ‘tude who slowly, but surely begins to show you more of his genuine side?? *swoon* Having said that, this was not an “insta-love” romance. There was instant attraction, but there was a slow-build leading up to the inevitable, and that is one of my favorite character building aspects. I love when two people are getting to know each other and form some sort of bond (they certainly formed one here in more ways than one!) and THEN they begin to fall in love throughout all of the madness surrounding them. The reader gets to learn more about them through the eyes of each other and that for me makes for a damn good romance.
LOVED that we got a glimpse of what happened after time had passed. I was practically racing to the end because I just *needed* to know if things were going to turn out like I hoped they would, and they did. Had it just ended at a certain point (I won’t spoil), I was prepared to ask for a follow-up novella. Kudos to Marni for such a fantastic job! I think I’m going to wrap myself up later tonight with a glass of wine and read this one all over again!

Lady Sun strikes an exciting and engaging balance between adventure and romance. Lucas and Sophie are the right amount of perfect for each other, with the right amount of imperfect and clashing. Their character-depth is evident, without the need for extremes, and their interactions realistic; their chemistry is easily experienced. The sex scenes are tastefully handled and work well with the rest of the events taking place. Some scenes between them as a couple are worth reading over again. The evolution of their romance, side by side with the other conflicts in the plot, make for nonstop reading. I finished this book in about a day and a half.

I applaud the author’s ability to give us so much of Lucas’s nature and story even though we don’t have his POV. I didn’t finish the story feeling as though I’d missed that personal connection with the hero. The overall tension is steady and top of the line. These two face some difficult situations, and each challenge is handled in a way that is totally plausible and much like you would expect in real life.

The first eight- to ten-percent of the book was a little rough for me, but I’m so glad that I kept reading and I encourage you to do the same. If you love a romance that you can’t put down, you’ll love this story.

Kudos to author Marni MacRae for taking me on a grand adventure, one with plenty of twists and turns that kept me riveted and reading into the wee hours. This was the kind of book that I couldn't wait to dig into and flip the page to see what happened next, but as I neared the final chapters, I found myself slowing down because I didn't want to let go of the characters just yet. The main character, Sophia, is everything I hope I'd be if I found myself in the same dire circumstance, smart, witty, prepared for anything, and a heart open to adventure and perhaps a little romance, even though she'd been burned before. And the cowboy, Lucas, he's everything any girl would want to be stranded on an island with. From plot, to character development, to the satisfying ending, I loved everything about this book, especially that I found myself laughing out loud many times!

This book is so awesome. Sophie, a rancher girl, has planned this dream getaway to a deserted island in the Maldives. She’s gone through a divorce, her family is nagging, and it’s bitterly cold outside in the Northwest. It’s the perfect time to leave. I liked Sophia from the start. Her character is so carefree and bubbly. She’s one of those really easygoing women who lights up the party. I loved her positive attitude even in the face of despair.

On the way to her private resort, she meets Lucas – it’s not Jack Sparrow, but you can’t go wrong with a cowboy. Actually you can, apparently. I got kind of turned off by his Debbie-downer attitude, sorry Lucas. Of course I forgave him after learning about his failed honeymoon. He and Sophie are two peas in a pod – both divorced, both live on a ranch, and for all his pessimism when they first met, Lucas turned out to be a really sweet, caring and fun loving guy. During their sail, their yacht is captured by pirates. Sophie and Lucas make an escape on a lifeboat, getaway plans officially ruined. Darn, I was so looking forward to the pina-coladas! They did manage to celebrate later on so that was nice.

So how do you spend your time on a lifeboat at in the middle of the ocean waiting to be rescued? You make love, and lots of it, with a cowboy. Sounds like the perfect plan. Of course, they had to deal with oppressive heat and sunburn and surviving on one swallow of water and some mixed nuts every couple of hours. Halfway through their survival at sea I was thinking if they can survive this they can survive anything together, even marriage, cause let’s face it, they owed it to each other.

The author was great at describing the scenery. I started craving fried fish and a cold pina-colada every time I read on. I really felt the characters, how their life and death struggle bound them together, and I learned some really interesting information. The next time I stumble I’ll be sure to look for the super glue.

On one Debbie downer note, this book just might make you think twice before booking your dream vacation.

Written in a style of very modern writing, Lady Sun makes many references to 21st Century cultural morays, i.e., Amazon, Google and Google Earth, such Hollywood icons as Tom Hanks and his Castaways co-star, Wilson, Johnny Depp, Matt Damon in the Jason Bourne role, the long running television show, Jeopardy. Even Barnes and Nobel is mentioned. That bricks and mortar books store will certainly be a complete unknown, maybe even before I finish this review :-). Not a book you would call one-for-the-ages … but, a book that will truly be a flash-to-the-past in 100 years for anyone interested in what life was like in 2015. Chapter one begins with the lead character, Sophie, gazing at her definition of paradise from the portholes of a yacht: a sandy beach with palm trees. And, for a reason not yet defined by the author, a prisoner. How’d she get in this predicament? What happened? Thus begins a tale of adventure and romance.

A light read, Lady Sun has all the elements, mysteries, thrills, good guys and bad guys, a sweet romance, and yes … a paradise of a setting. The male lead, Lucas, would be a great ‘castaway’ for any red-blooded girl :-). Enjoyed!!

I was scrolling through the available Kindle Unlimited books and came across this one. I read it in a matter of hours, not wanting to put it down at all. The characters were so real and engaging; I loved the monologue that Sophie has with herself, and the Castaway references of course. I look forward to reading more from this author, and would happily pay full price for her books after this sample of her writing style.

Let's take a vacation...

Marni Macrae has graced us with a fresh take on an old story: girl meets boy, boy and girl get stranded on a deserted island, boy and girl fall in love.

Lucas is yummy in all his cowboy ways. I wasn't sure at first I would like him. But by the time they are overboard, he was my favorite character. Strong, capable, protective. He's the perfect man.

The book is written from Sophia's point of view. I'll admit it took me a little longer to fall in love with her than it did Lucas as she was a bit outgoing for me. But stripped away from her creature comforts and thrown into survival mode, she was calm and capable and incredibly strong.

The story itself was well-plotted. Fast paced, but not so much so that you miss out on the fun details of survival. The love story is sweet. The "romance" is chaste... hinted at rather than explained in detail. And the end was wholly satisfying.

Also, I walk away from it with a few tidbits of information. Like I really need to add some super glue to my emergency kit lol.

All in all, great story. I read it in two sittings, excited to get back to it when I put it down. It was a fun little vacation from real life.

I absolutely loved this book and it has become one of my personal favorites. It has everything. Great humor, an incredible heroine, a sexy hero (who is amazing!), suspense, and an unexcited sweetness that makes you all warm and fuzzy.
This is the type of read that keeps you gripped until the very last page, and then run off to tell everyone you know to read it. I started reading, discovered it was midnight, decided I could squeeze in another hour and then was forced to put it down long enough to sleep (highly irritating) and the next day was inconvenienced with daily activates before I finally gave up on them and finished my book.
First, what makes this story so amazing is the heroine, Sophia. She is a truly great character. Realistic, sarcastic, funny, and her optimism is refreshing. What was also refreshing? When she first meets Lucas. I laughed so many times during their first talk and loved Sophie’s inner thoughts, since us ladies after all, have very similar ones. Lucas is an amazing hero. Absolutely delicious and I don’t blame Sophie one bit for her thoughts around the man. The whole boat scene with them was one of the best female/male meetings I’ve ever read.
The story had great plot twists, great underlined suspense and even moments where Sophie was so daft and clouded by enthusiasm that you want to tap her on the shoulder and remind her to pay attention, but it just adds to the realism.
Definitely recommend and I’ll devour the next book this author releases just as quickly as I did this one.

Lady Sun by Marni MacRae is a wonderful read packed with romance, humor, relatable characters, and action. This book truly has everything and will make you think about your own life’s priorities.
The book starts with Sophia wanting to get away and go on an island retreat. Through a series of events, she ends up being kidnapped by pirates and rescued by a handsome, stoic cowboy named Lucas. Through many plot twists and exciting events, the two end up stranded on an island. This is not your typical “castaway” story, however, and the romance that builds between the two protagonists is well beyond your expected romance. By the middle of the book, you will be rooting for these two to truly find their own paradise.
I loved the quirky sense of humor of Sophia and the strong character of Lucas. They make a wonderful team in the novel; I found myself rooting for them the whole way through.
The only thing I didn’t like was at the very beginning. I felt like I didn’t know Sophia as a character in the first handful of chapters. I had no idea what she did for a living, what her family life was like, or anything about her personally. Because of this, her “quirks” came off as annoying in the first few chapters because I wasn’t invested in her. By the middle, however, this problem worked itself out as her character was developed. I just wish I had learned a little bit more about her (such as her occupation) earlier so that I could have been more invested from the beginning. By the end of the novel, I was completely invested in her character, however, and felt like we could be good friends.
Overall, this book is a fantastic read. The heavy plot twists coupled with the refreshing humor makes it an interesting but also a deeper read than your typical romance. I felt like I wanted to know more about Sophia and Lucas’s life, so I would be interested in a sequel if one were written. I am looking forward to more books from this wonderful author!

it was pure Pleasure to read this book.
Despite the angst, drama and hardships the MCs facing, the plot is spiced up with so much humor, that the challenge becomes a funny adventure, and the reader is drawn into the special intimacy developing between Lucas and Sofia.
The author has done a wonderful job writing this novel, its fluent, stylish, you getting tones of interesting information and lovely references, it keeps you intellectually stimulated throughout the read.
I think that 'Lady Sun' fulfilling a fantasy that exists in every one of us, heart-melting romance under life-threatening situation, and deserted island as the setting, steaming hot.
Another thing I liked is that even though the plot might sounds unrealistic, when you read it you realize how realistic it may be.
It was a wonderful experience to read 'lady sun' and highly recommended it.

Lady Sun, such a fun, witty, adventurous read. I love romance, especially, romance books that make me smile and laugh out loud. I also liked that I could never assume where the story was going right of the bat. Lady Sun kept me on my toes, wondering what was going to happen next.

Sophia and Lucas both take a tropical vacation to a far away island, both to escape the norm of everyday life for different reasons, but what awaits them is anything but what they planned for.

The two meet; Lucas, the handsome cowboy, drawn into himself and less than pleasant at first, and Sophia, the quirky, full of life woman on the vacation of her dreams, who tries to pull Cowboy out of his funk while the two are stuck together on a yacht that's suppose to be taking them to their very own remote island getaway.

Unfortunately, a run in with some pirates (and not of the Jonny Depp kind) turns their vacation into a mission of survival, and takes them on an adventure neither were planning on. Though their adventure is scary and unpredictable at times this story is kept light and fun with Sophia's easy going nature and hilarious inner monolog.

Can Sophia get Lucas to let some of those walls down? Will they survive the unforgivable conditions of Mother Nature and the unpredictability of the vast ocean surrounding them?

The author, Marni MacRae, has created a fun, adventurous read and manages to keep it romantic and humorous even when her characters face the extreme. She provided just enough detail and descriptive words to paint a picture in my head and make me feel as if I was right there with Sophia and Lucas, stuck in the middle of the ocean. This book kept me smiling throughout and rooting for these characters.

I really liked this book and look forward to reading more from Marni MacRae! I don't know what to compare this book to other than a mix between Bridget Jones and Wallbanger by Alice Clayton .

This novel is like Tom Hanks meets Ginger on Gilligan's Island. A man and woman love story with a twist. I generally would not read a "Romance" novel but this story is not your average man meets woman, live happily ever after saga. An unlikely pair, escaping modern life marriage woes, wind up together on a yacht heading for a tropical paradise. Anyone reading this book would not see these two having anything to do with each other but fate forces one to be dependant on the other when their boat is taken over by modern day pirates with bad intentions. They escape their captors and overcome hardship to make it to a deserted island....I know, this is starting to sound like a promo for a love story and it is, kind of, except for the survival aspect of the story. Happy ever after doesn't come into play here yet. Marni Macrae's style of writing kept me interested enough to have to find out what happens next. The novel is not complex and easy to follow. It is a very entertaining read and I recommend it highly. Marni and her next novel is something to watch out for.

I don’t often hand out 5 star ratings. For a book to earn five stars with me it must captivate me to the point that I can’t wait to get back to it. Lady Sun does just that. I will also say it probably is in the top five ranking of best love stories I’ve read. The opening chapter starts out with plenty of chuckles that made my husband keep asking, “What is so funny?” The author then goes through the character’s check list of finding the perfect vacation spot, booking the vacation, and packing for such vacation. These details may seem trivial at the time (and the humor takes the mind off that), but we’ll come back to them later. Marni MacRae delivers a powerful story of adventure, tragedy, and love…with just the right amount of tasteful sex (I hate explicit sex in romance novels. If I wanted that I’d read erotica). I was touched to watch the relationship between Lucas and Sophia as it grew in desperation of survival. Some people may find the ending predictable but regardless, the story is endearing and worth the read. Well done, Marnie. I will definitely be a return reader.

Five stars all the way! This is a totally unique romance novel with a twist. It's one of those books that'll be very sneaky and worm its way into your heart, and before you know it, you're in love!

This is a beautiful but tragic story. It's tragic, not because of how it ends, but because of the events that happen. It had me totally hooked! Whenever everything seems to be going right for Sophia and Lucas, their world gets turned upside down again. Seriously, there isn't a boring moment in this book. Better than that, it's all events you really can believe happened!

About the romance... I think it's beautiful that two people so sorely tried can find happiness together. They're literally fighting to survive - yet they manage to find love. Aww!! It's like one of those "love conquers all" stories.

I loved Sophia and Lucas as characters. We learn more about them as they're getting to know each other. I really liked that because it was a more natural way of getting to know the main characters. You can tell they're really strong characters because, even in the face of terrible and traumatic events, they still have a sense of humour! I love it when Sophia is going to look at the debris on an island and she calls it shopping! lol! Needless to say, I found them life-like and believable. I loved their backstories and I can honestly believe they're out there somewhere :)

The ending... *sigh* I can honestly say I never saw it coming (which in itself is rare). There are so many twists in the book that you would never guess how the story will end. Will they die? Will they survive? Will they settle down on the island or go back to civilisation? We just don't know! When I read the final page I was in tears, it really choked me up. I won't say anything about the ending except that it was fantastic :) It was well-rounded and covered any lingering questions I had about the story.

I'd definitely recommend this book to people who like romance, drama, and tragedy. If you like stories about survival you'll also like Lady Sun. I'm happy to say it's a new favourite of mine and it's one of those I'd buy a friend or family member for Christmas! :D
