Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel is a story about the adventures of four doggie friends. Kurt, Gert and Jazmine are friends, but one day Jasmine didn’t have anyone to be friends with so she went strolling around and found Bagel, and they became really good friends. Jazmine was excited about her new friend Bagel, but she wanted to stay friends with Kurt and Gert, so she called her two long-time friends and told them all about Bagel. What will happen with these four doggie pals? Will they accept each other and all be friends?
The tale of these four furry friends makes for a really cute story. Three of them started out as friends, and when the fourth one came along, there were some thoughts about jealously in their relationship. But author Irene Dolnick does a fantastic job of weaving this doggie situation together and creating a very heart-warming story. I love that she shows the important of friendship between the four. The adorable and wonderful graphics and the humor throughout the book will capture the attention of young readers.
This is a very different children’s book from any I have read. Throughout the book, Irene Dolnick uses phonics to help those who read the book pronounce and understand the words better. She actually includes the pronunciation of some of the words. For me, this book will be fantastic for teaching children and adults to read more efficiently. The reader can read and sound out the words as he/she reads. I think Kurt, Gert, Jazmine, and Bagel by Irene Dolnick would be better suited to those young people who are learning to read instead of the younger grades. Overall, a fantastic story and very clever thinking on adding the phonics. When you read this book, you will clearly be able to see the love, thoughts, research and hard work in this wonderful book.
