Kringle Cat Gets Lost in Guatemala is a bilingual children's book written by Carrie Foshee, Edwin Castillo Ramos and Karin Hillstrom. Narrated in both English and Spanish, Kringle Cat Gets Lost in Guatemala tells the tale of a cat who loves to travel. Kringle Cat always has the urge to leave the house and explore, but gets lost every time he dares do so. Upon arriving in Guatemala, a very lost Kringle Cat meets a quetzal bird named Ketsy, who offers to be Kringle Cat’s tour guide. Ketsy flies Kringle Cat to Santiago Atitlan, San Pedro, Panajachel, the Mayan ruins of Tikal and many more exciting places. With so much to see and so many things to do, Kringle Cat soon becomes tired and takes a nap, before waking up in his own bed. Excited by his incredible adventure, Kringle Cat starts to plan for his next adventure.
I was quite excited myself to see so many beautiful and exotic places with Kringle Cat and Ketsy. The markets, foods, and indoor and outdoor adventures made me want to delve more into this wonderful destination, which is so beautifully illustrated and described by Carrie Foshee, Edwin Castillo Ramos and Karin Hillstrom. I was unaware of the vast cultural differences between Guatemala and my own home in Finland until reading about them and seeing them for myself. The amazingly illustrated index at the end of Kringle Cat’s whirlwind journey is beneficial on so many levels, in that it explains and showcases the hows and whys of life in South America, allowing the reader to immerse themselves into the story so fully that it instills in them the urge to buy a plane ticket and have an adventure of their very own. I immensely enjoyed Kringle Cat Gets Lost in Guatemala and recommend it to readers aged 7-12 years so that they can see there is much more to this planet than their own back yards.
