Kinder Nacht by Paul M Molnar describes a dark, shadowy entity that feeds on the negative emotions of children. It is capable of materializing into children's deepest fears and hunting them down in their dreams as well as in reality. It is called by different names in different cultures but always looks for a place to feed on the fear of the innocent. Some children may start to develop the ability to actually see and even gain power over the Kinder Nacht, but it is a curse because they will also be able to interact with the dead. The silencing of the Kinder Nacht is with love, happiness, and forgiveness, the kryptonite that will be the ruin of this entity. Singing, laughing, and smiling are some of the positive activities that will counteract its influences.
The storytelling is just so amazing. Kinder Nacht is imaginatively colorful with poetic, almost haunting language mixed with humor. The imagination and insight of the author are seen in dealing with such issues as psychological trauma, nightmares, and the conflict between the world of adults and the world of children. However, what impressed me the most was the way the Kinder Nacht seems to be a timeless, cross-cultural entity with the ability to morph and adapt. I am glad I read this book. Kinder Nacht by Paul M Molnar is perfect for readers who love stories with lots of imagination. Fans of horror and dark fantasy will love it, too, as well as anyone who enjoys deep, thoughtful themes about being human.
